Fairfax crime on the rise, while Hollywood is getting safer

Crime

The Fairfax neighborhood has maintained one of the highest overall crime rates in Los Angeles for the past year.

The total number of crimes increased from 134 in March to 159 in April, and burglary from vehicles doubled to 20 incidents in April.

Hollywood, not far from Fairfax, saw a decline in its overall crime rates, pushing it down four spots on our April 2018 crime ranking.

What’s going on in Fairfax?

It’s an emerging area in Los Angeles, and home to around 13,000 residents. HuffPost called Fairfax Ave “the coolest street in Los Angeles” in 2015 and the LA Times described the district as “bumper-to-bumper with L.A. culture.”

Hollywood has a population of about 85,000 and is a magnet for many tourists in Los Angeles, who tend to be the targets of many petty crimes. However, overall crime has declined in recent months.
